Behavior Interventionist
Detroit Metropolitan Area- Rotate between three locations. (Detroit, Oak Park, Redford).
Flexible work schedule: 20 hours/week- 9:00am to 2:00pm.
$42.50/hr.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with classroom teachers, school Psychologists and school Social Workers on developing Behavior Intervention Plans for students with behavioral concerns.
- Work directly and diligently with identified students to adapt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance and functional independence.
- Provide strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.
- Supports students with behavioral needs in the classroom in collaboration with the general education teacher.
- Supports families of students who have behavioral challenges.
- Provide Professional Learning to staff on ways to support students with behavioral challenges in the classroom.
- Model strategies in the classroom for general education teachers to implement to support students who have behavioral challenges.
- Coordinate, monitor, interpret and report data on targeted student behavior.
- Complete effective formal & informal individual student assessments and produce accurate, articulate, and timely written reports.
- Participate as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team for assigned cases.
- Communicate effectively in a liaison role with parents, staff, administration, school districts and agencies regarding current students and referrals.
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, ancillary, paraprofessionals, administrators, parents, outside agency supports on a routine basis.
- Facilitate problem-solving utilizing a structured meeting format to address challenging behavior(s), classroom management, program concerns, etc.
- Aid teams with developing successful transitions for incoming referrals & students returning to their resident district.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Other duties as assigned by the administration.
Specialized Education: Training, knowledge, experience and certification(s) required.
- Applicant must have completed a Master's Degree.
- Michigan Department of Education fully approved School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Counselor, Special Education Teacher, or certified K-6 Gen Ed Teacher with over 5 years of experience in the classroom.
- Behavior Intervention Specialist Certification, preferred but not required.
- Knowledge and experience with Positive Behavior Support, Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Intervention Planning, preferred.
- Training, familiarity, and experience with students with disabilities, developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis &/or emotional impairment.
- Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention strategies or be willing to be trained.
- ABA experience required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with superior organization and communication skills.
- Strong consultative communication skills.
- Knowledge of MDE Emergency Seclusion & Emergency Restraint Law.
- Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with developing a platform for data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring.
- Ability to withstand the strain of the position.
- Must be reliable and punctual with excellent work-related attendance record.
Physical Requirement:
- Able to lift 15 pounds to carry, push and/or pull items.
- Hear and speak to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- The ability to travel to other buildings within the district is required.
