Bus Driver:
- Monday - Saturday.
- 5:30am to 8:30am.
- 2:30pm to 5:30pm.
- $25.00/hr.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct documented pre-trip inspections as required by federal and state laws.
- Operate the vehicle safely before driving while adhering to specific established routes.
- Keeps assigned time schedules that may require pre-day light and dusk periods.
- Adhere to all traffic and transportation laws and practices as outline in the Bus Driver manual per the Secretary of State.
- Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses and keeps all emergency exits clear of obstructions.
- Maintain appropriate fuel level of school bus.
- Work to maintain student discipline on the bus and enforce safety rules governing student conduct.
- Report undisciplined students to the school director as well as the transportation supervisor in accordance with the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
- Report any and all accidents immediately to the proper authority as needs.
- Be prepared to conduct emergency evacuation drills.
- Administer first aid as necessary.
- Notify the school director and transportation supervisor in the event of a mechanical failure, safety deficiencies when off schedule or other incidents.
- Return and secure the bus to the assigned bus lot, perform a final inspection and secure the bus according to the procedures.
- Maintain acceptable communications with transportation supervisor, staff and the parent community.
Specialized Education:
- High school graduate or GED.
- Possess a valid commercial driver’s license with an excellent record.
- Pass Michigan Department of Education physical examination requirements.
- Clear Federal check; includes finger printing.
- Meet Federal DOT drug/alcohol testing requirements.
- Completion of Michigan School Bus Driver Education course.
- Commercial Driver License (C.D. L.) Certification.
- Commercial Driver License with appropriate group designation:
- C and/or B.
- “P” for Passenger.
- “S” for School Bus.

- Free from adverse effects of medication, alcohol and drugs.
- Use respectable language at all times.
- Maintain emotional control under stress due to the mental demand.
- Familiar with the geographic service area of the district.
Physical Requirements:
- Duties of this position are performed on a school bus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noise levels; fumes or airborne particles; noxious orders; vibrations from driving a bus; and traffic.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures.
- The employee must be able to communicate orally and hear on a two-way radio with transportation dispatch and emergency services while the bus is in motion.
- Employee must be able to communicate effectively and positively with parents, students, staff and co-workers.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb; bend stoop, and kneel; and talk and hear.
- This includes the pushing/pulling of up to 50 pounds.
- In addition, have the ability to use emergency exits at any location on the bus.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, night/desk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
